SHERIDAN — Jon Connolly, vice president of academic affairs at Sheridan College, will serve his last day at the college Sept. 13.
Connolly, who has been employed at SC for four years, has accepted the position of vice president and academic dean for Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield, Maine.
Connolly lived in Maine previously for close to 20 years as a graduate student and as a biological researcher. He said the decision to move to Maine was spurred by the desire for him and his wife to be closer to family.
“The primary reason is that my bride has family there,” Connolly said. “She was born and raised there and she just really, really needs to go home and go back to Maine.”
“We’re going to miss the people of this community dearly,” he continued. “But it is hard to be 2,300 miles away from your daughter (for his wife Joanie). That family pull is just too significant. The opportunity presented itself very surprisingly. We thought we should take that opportunity instead of ignore it.”
Connolly begins his new duties in Maine on Sept. 18.
