SHERIDAN — Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery invites the public to three free workshops Saturday.
The day will start at 8:30 a.m. with “Plotting the Veggie Garden: Companion Planting, Raised Beds and More.” Janelle Gray and Phil Gilmore will explain the many styles of vegetable gardens including raised beds, vertical and square foot gardening. Plant placement for maximum pest protection and yield will also be discussed.
At 10 a.m. Janelle Gray will present an introduction to the basics of growing your own vegetables. Gray will cover planting, proper watering and pest control.
At 1 p.m. Rick Schmidt will host “Scrape the Snow, Get Ready to Grow!” He will instruct class members on how to prepare perennial beds for spring planting.
A free workshop will also be offered on April 2 at 5:30 p.m. Keith Kershaw and Donald Legerski will present “The Fruits of Your Labor.” Session participants will learn what varieties of fruit live and thrive in our area, and how to plant, water and prune for best results. Techniques for increasing yield will be discussed.
Space is limited and the workshops fill up quickly, so Landon’s requests pre-registration for all workshops. Call 672-8340 or stop by Landon’s at 505 College Meadow Drive. More information about all of the free spring workshops can be found online at www.landonsgreenhouse.com.
