Planning Commission supports 264-acre city annexation
Date posted: August 12, 2013
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan City Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of a second Wrench Ranch annexation to city council at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.
The annexation would add approximately 264 acres to city property north of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, west of Vacutech and southwest of Interstate 90. The land would primarily be used for development of the proposed Sheridan College Large Animal Facility and the proposed headquarters of the First People’s Center for Education.
The annexation request includes a rezone of the property from agricultural to a mixture of gateway, higher education and R-3 Residential. Also included in the annexation is a utility easement for the city’s Northwest Water Transmission Main Loop and Northwest Infrastructure projects, which are both slated for construction in 2013 and 2014.
Installation of the water loop is needed to allow further development in the area, City Planning and Development Director Robert Briggs said.
At this point, the only proposed development is the educational centers in the higher education zone of the annexed land.
One request for further information has been made by a county resident who does not live in the area surrounding the annexation, according to a staff memo.
Further details on the proposed annexation will be available in Tuesday’s edition of The Sheridan Press.
