SHERIDAN — The Troopers run at state ended with a loss to the team that would go on to win the tournament.
Sheridan lost 16-6 to Cheyenne Post 6 Saturday, falling for the second time at the 2013 Wyoming State ‘AA’ Tournament to Post 6. Sheridan used four pitchers, none of whom lasted more than two innings. Cheyenne took a 3-0 lead, but Sheridan got three runs in the third inning to tie. Post 6 added five in the fifth and didn’t surrender the lead from there.
If Sheridan had advanced past Post 6, they would have needed two wins over the Casper Oilers for a title. The Oilers hadn’t lost yet in Cheyenne and were waiting in the championship game. Cheyenne defeated Casper Saturday then again Sunday to take their fifth straight state title and their 11th in 12 years.
After an opening round blowout win over Jackson Wednesday, Sheridan fell to Post 6, 16-8, Thursday night and into the consolation bracket. Friday, the Troopers battled to wins over the Cheyenne Hawks, 12-10, and Jackson, 11-4, to earn their semifinal with Post 6.
Sheridan finished 22-27 after their run at state this weekend. They moved up to ‘AA’ as the league grew to eight teams in 2013. It was comprised of four teams last year. The Laramie Rangers won this year’s ‘A’ District title.
