SHERIDAN — Under the leadership of Ron Kensey, CEO of Kennon Products, the WYO Theater Capital Campaign has begun the public portion of the nonprofit’s fundraising efforts.
Currently, 35 community members have been recruited as campaigners and have begun making contact with more than 1,500 potential donors to the project.
The campaign is focused on gifts of $5,000 or less over five years in order to qualify for the $250,000 pledge from the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundation.
“It’s an amazing opportunity that the WYO has been given by the Scott Foundation, (and) to be able to help make that happen is something that I am happy to be a part of,” campaigner Tenille Castle said about why she got involved.
According to a press release from the WYO Theater, organizers hope each campaigner will build upon their successes by inviting others to join them in the effort.
“We would love to see over 100 persons on the roles as campaigners in this exciting project,” Kensey said. “The WYO is Sheridan’s theater. It belongs to all of us and all of us should be proud to be a part of helping the WYO move into this next phase of its life as Sheridan’s cultural centerpiece.”
Currently, masonry work creating the structure for the added wing space and new fly system is underway.
In addition, foundations needed for steel work, retaining walls at the front and rear of the property and preparation for utilities are nearing completion. Steel is expected to arrive mid-August. The theater will close following the Aug. 11 performance by acoustic singer/songwriter Aaron Tippin and reopen in early September. During that time, work on the additional restroom facilities will take place.
The public campaign will continue through the calendar year.
