SHERIDAN — The Powder River Basin Resource Council will host a Spring Solar Celebration March 20 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Luminous Brewhouse in Sheridan.
The event will feature the PRBRC’s series of videos sharing solar stories from around Wyoming, and there will be installers and solar users on hand to answer questions and share their experiences. The event is free and open to the public and will include door prizes.
“Utilizing solar power for my home just makes sense. Not only will it pay for itself over time due to savings in my electricity bill, but it also adds value to my property,” said Bernadette Barlow, a PRBRC member who recently had residential solar installed. “Installation was quick and easy, and it started generating electricity immediately.”
The Spring Solar Celebration is part of the Resource Council’s RENEWyoming campaign to assist people around the state who are interested in going solar. As installation costs have dropped, Wyomingites have taken advantage of this opportunity to generate their own power. RENEWyoming tells these stories through video, print and social media, as well as providing public information on opportunities and barriers associated with renewables in Wyoming.
“Feeling the warmth while sitting in your car in the sun, even on a cold day, proves that Wyoming is very well situated to harvest solar energy. Advances in technology have helped lower costs and increase efficiency. Even older systems can benefit by adding newer tech to help increase output,” said Richard Mack of Premier Electric, a local solar installer. “There’s no telling how long grants and tax incentives will remain in place, so if you’ve ever thought about going solar, now may be the time.”
