Over the weekend, The Sheridan Press published an article outlining some delinquent mineral taxes owed to the county. The amount reaches into the millions and county officials pointed out how difficult it can be to get that paid in full, especially when companies restructure through bankruptcy proceedings.
While some energy companies haven’t paid up, others have. Cloud Peak Energy paid $231 million in taxes and royalties in 2016 and paid on time for 2017, too.

Good news for one of community’s largest employers.
The Sheridan Press has started seeking nominations for the 2018 FAB Woman of the Year. Each of the nominees will be recognized at the FAB (For. About. By.) Women’s Conference scheduled for April 6 at Sheridan College.
The lineup of speakers is outstanding — real power hitters. We’ll release the session topics and facilitators over the next couple of weeks.
But first, we hope you’ll send nominations for the FAB Woman of the Year award our way.
You can pick up the nomination form at The Press (144 E. Grinnell Plaza), download it from the FAB website (www.thesheridanpress.com/fab) or fill out the form on the website.
We don’t put a lot of requirements on those that will be recognized. All we ask is that she exemplify strength and determination, adaptability and humanity, vision, leadership and integrity. If you know a woman like that, we hope you’ll take time to nominate her for this year’s award.
Nominations are due by March 2. Each nominee will be recognized at the FAB luncheon April 6 and the Woman of the Year will be announced there as well.
Mark the date on your calendar and plan to attend. We have some amazing women in our community, and we hope to show them a little love this spring.
Also, keep checking the FAB website for updates on this year’s event. You won’t want to miss the slate of speakers we have coming to Sheridan.
