SHERIDAN — Four Wyoming artists received Purchase Awards from Gov. Matt Mead recently during the 2013 Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition reception held at the State Museum.

Sonja Caywood of Dayton was a recipient of a Purchase Award for her oil painting “Sunday Morning Fellowship.”

Other Purchase Award winners included:

• Travis Ivey, Laramie.

• Eileen Nistler, Upton.

• Ed Sherline, Laramie.

Janet Hodson of Laramie received an honorary People’s Choice Award.

Established under an initiative by former Gov. Jim Geringer and organized under the auspices of the Wyoming State Museum and the Wyoming Arts Council, the Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition is an annual juried art competition providing a means for work by Wyoming artists to be displayed in state offices.

Works receiving Purchase Awards join a growing collection of prestigious art inspired by Wyoming’s unique landscapes, culture and wildlife. The state’s five statewide elected officials and representatives from other state agencies participating in the program select the Purchase Award winners.

All remaining artworks from this year’s exhibition are for sale and will remain on display at the Wyoming State Museum through June 30. All sales benefit the purchase fund for the permanent art collection at the Wyoming State Museum. The show will be on public display daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through June 30 at the Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne.
