SHERIDAN — Last month, 132 golfers, hospital employees and staff gathered at the Powder Horn Golf Club to raise funds for the “Bridging the Gap” program at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

This year’s tournament raised more than $23,000 for the Bridging the Gap program.

There was also a tournament first, a hole-in-one. Dr. Hannah Hall shot her very first hole- in-one on Eagle #3, which also happened to be the $10,000 prize hole.

“I really don’t consider myself a golfer, but I may spend more time doing it now,” Hall said.

Other tournament winners included:

• First-place team (men) — Bill Pettit, Dan Overton, Tyler Johnson and Dustin Rougeau

• First-place team (women) — Kaelee Saner, Patty Roma, Lynn Custis and JoAnne Mayer

• First-place team (co-ed) — Jason Wille, Rob Johnson, Dave Berry and Heather Berry.

Hole games, raffle drawings and other prizes were awarded as well. The hospital noted that insurance was purchased to cover the $10,000 hole-in-one prize.

“It is such an honor to be able to work on this tournament,” said Ada Kirven, director of donor relations at the foundation. “This is just one example of the amazing support the foundation and hospital receive from our community. Thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors, participants and volunteers for helping make this a great event!”

Bridging the Gap is a one-time, patient grant program developed due to an increasing need to assist patients at the time of hospital discharge. Liz Mahoney, case management lead at the hospital explained that these funds allow patients to recover successfully at home after a hospital stay. The funds are used for items such as prescriptions, oxygen, groceries, transportation and other items.

“This program is an important resource for the patients we serve,” said Tracy Will, social worker at the hospital. “The assistance provides not only safe discharge from the hospital but independence, dignity and quality of life.”
