SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Jets continued a stretch of six straight games with teams from Billings, dropping two on the road Wednesday.
The Billings Cardinals beat the Jets 6-2 and 10-5 Wednesday afternoon in Billings, as the Jets played another tough opponent after dropping four to the Billings Blue Jays last weekend.
“I thought we competed hard and were much improved today,” head coach Ryan Murner said.“ In the first game we gave up some at bats by swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. Kendall Walters pitched well and gave us a chance. He kept their hitters off balance, but we couldn’t put quality at bats together to generate enough runs.”
Walters went six innings allowing eight hits and five earned while waving four and walking three.
Offensively, the Jets managed three hits, with Kris Clark’s two-run home run in the fourth accounting for all their scoring.
In game two, defensive mistakes left Sheridan in a 8-0 hole after two innings. The Jets had nine errors in the loss.
“We put so much pressure on our pitchers by not making plays that even out, and our hitting in the game was not enough,” Murner explained. “Our players are starting to understand the game plan for playing good baseball, now we need to continue to work hard and execute that game plan.”
Blake Godwin threw five solid innings, giving up five hits and two earned with two strikeouts. James Timberlake had two RBIs. Sheridan is home for a doubleheader Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m. against the Billings Angels.
