SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School tennis team set two players in final matches Wednesday in Gillette.

No. 1 singles players Julia Fenn and Reed Ritterbusch each defeated their semifinal opponents rather easily Tuesday, setting up title defense matches today.

Ritterbusch defeated Cody’s Jordan Steckler 6-4, 6-1, and will face Laramie’s Dylan Bainer in the final. Bainer defeated the Bronc senior Ritterbusch during the regular season after winning a tie-breaker 7-6 (3) in the first set, and then taking the second set 6-1.

For Fenn, it was a breeze to the finals again as she has lost just one game during her three match wins in Gillette. She defeated Gillette’s Madison Hinshaw 6-1, 6-0 in Tuesday’s semifinal. Fenn plays Lucia Cho of Laramie today. The Lady Broncs sophomore defeated Cho 6-1, 6-2 during the regular season.

At No. 2 singles, Adam Berry fell to Laramie’s Hun Cho 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals yesterday, fighting back to earn a berth in the third-place game today against No. 1 seed Trey Blough of Cody.

Berry battled in a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 defeat during his match with Blough earlier this season.

In the other third-place match for Sheridan, Turner Martini and Logan Garstad will look to finish strong at No. 1 doubles. After being clipped Monday and falling into the consolation bracket, the two won three matches Tuesday to earn the berth against Drummond/Bainer of Laramie, who knocked them into the consolation bracket on Monday. Martini and Garstad fell 6-1, 6-3 in that game.

For the rest of the field, Sheridan teams didn’t go down without a fight Tuesday as each won at least one match and all forced three set matches in their elimination match.

At No. 2 singles, sophomore Katelynn Brooks finished a strong debut varsity season, dropping her elimination match in the consolation semifinal. She fell just short of the third place match after falling 6-7, 6-0, 7-5 in to Natrona’s Tristyn Phillips.

The Broncs No. 2 doubles team, Lachlan Brennan/Tristan Gamble, won their first consolation round match but fell, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, in their second and were eliminated.

The Lady Broncs No. 1 doubles team, Gina Romanjenko/Annalee Bailey, fell in three sets in their second consolation round game of the day, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

The Lady Broncs No. 2 doubles team, Hannah Maixner/Sam Hamilton, also won their first consolation round match, falling in their second, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.

Finally, No. 3 doubles players Robert Meixell/Sam Sanders won one then were eiminated in their final gasp, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).
