SHERIDAN — Learning by Design magazine recently selected Sheridan College’s Thorne-Rider Campus Center as an “Outstanding Project” in its 2015 Awards of Excellence publication.

Learning by Design, “the premier source for education design innovation and excellence,” featured the Sheridan College building in the New Construction/Addition category in its fall 2015 publication.

“Better connection and campus access; updated, community-centered food services; and 21st-century-learning student gathering spaces were all attained through innovative design,” the magazine article states. “Additionally, the improved venue draws in the commuter students and faculty and has become a lunch destination for the community.”

Awards were selected by a panel of architects from across the United States. Two Wyoming colleges, Sheridan and Northwest, received recognition from Learning by Design — both for projects by CTA Architects.

“We are proud of the new Campus Center and love the opportunity to share it,” said Dr. Paul Young, president of Sheridan College. “The Thorne-Rider Campus Center wouldn’t have been possible without the contributions of so many, from the college students, faculty and staff, to the architects and construction workers, to the community support. This new space is making a difference for our students.”

The Thorne-Rider Campus Center, designed by CTA Architects, was completed in July 2014 by Dick Anderson Construction.

“Every design decision supports the overarching goal to create a campus that enriches the academic lives of all students,” according to the publication. “New open spaces provide venues for events such as movies and live music for faculty, staff, student commuters and residents alike.”
