SHERIDAN — The Broncs are headed back to the 4A state soccer tournament.

Sheridan beat Cheyenne East Thursday night, 4-3 on penalty kicks, after teams were unable to break a 1-1 tie through regulation and overtime of their 4A East Regional quarterfinal game in Cheyenne.

The Broncs scored in the fourth minute when Joe Shassetz finished service from Kameron Eckard. East hit home a corner kick in the 54th minute to tie things a 1-1.

The two teams played out a 0-0 draw two weeks ago. Prior to that, April 5 in Sheridan, the Broncs beat East 2-1 when Lucas Wollenman hit home an extra time penalty kick to give Sheridan the win.

For the third and final meeting between the two, Wollenman put away the T-Birds again.

In the shootout, East sailed two shots over while Sheridan missed one. Nick Estes, Matteus Segura and Scott Passini got their PKs to go, and Wollenman stepped up and broke the 3-3 tie as the last kick taker, sending Sheridan to state.

But first, the Broncs move on to play Gillette tonight at 6 in the regional semis. The winner of that game plays Laramie/Central winner at Noon Saturday in the 4A East Regional title.

Sheridan was last year’s 4A boys runner-up, falling to in the title game to Kelly Walsh 5-4 on penalty kicks in Sheridan.

The 2013 state tournament, set for next weekend, will be in Rock Springs.
