SHERIDAN — Chickens are now allowed in Ranchester.
According to Mayor Allan Moore, members of Ranchester Town Council unanimously passed a chicken ordinance on final reading at their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday.

The permit for chickens will cost $25, and the chickens must be penned and kept in a clean, responsible manner.

The council also discussed a proposed tower to be installed near the water tank by Visionary Communications that will increase Internet speed and efficiency in Ranchester.

No action was taken on the tower at the meeting. Council members are still debating and gathering information, Moore said.

Members of the council also discussed water rates and how to accommodate overwatering issues but made no final decision.
