SHERIDAN — Volunteers of America Northern Rockies hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for their newest program, Penrose Place on Monday.

Penrose Place is a planned 15-unit Housing and Urban Development subsidized apartment complex for low-income seniors more than 62 years old who meet income requirements.

Penrose Place is located on the corner of Sixth and Skeels streets in Sheridan.

VOANR broke ground on the project a few months ago and is currently running about three months behind due to weather.

Penrose Place is tentatively scheduled to be open in April 2014.
VOANR currently has one other affordable housing apartment complex in Wyoming named Bell Park Tower in Torrington, and two apartment complexes in Montana — Magic City Terrace and Aspen Grove.

As a national nonprofit organization, Volunteers of America is one of the largest nonprofit providers of affordable housing in the country.

The organization owns and operates more than 377 affordable housing properties in 40 states and Puerto Rico, housing a total of 25,000 people each year.
