SHERIDAN — Big Horn and Sheridan runners teamed off against five other schools Friday evening in Gillette and coaches for both teams said they were extremely pleased with the performances of their athletes.

For his part, Big Horn coach Kirk McLaughlin lauded his team for several strong showings, citing strong individuals and team performances in several events.

On the girls’ side, the 1,600 meter relay team of Jadyn Mirich, Ashley Fox, Cricket Cunningham and Bailey Bard placed third overall and broke the Big Horn record they owned with a time of 4 minutes, 17.45 seconds.

The girls’ 400 meter relay team of Hanneah Puckett, Ashley Fox, Cricket Cunningham and Morgan Nance also performed well, placing fifth overall.

Additionally, Mirich placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49 seconds and third in the high jump at 4 feet 11 inches.

Ashley Fox and Hanneah Puckett also recorded impressive performances of fifth place in the 400 meters and seventh in high jump respectively.

For the Big Horn boys, Matt Wigglesworth led the way, finishing second in the 300 meter hurdles and seventh in the 110 meter hurdles.

“I’m very pleased,” McLaughlin said. “They weren’t intimidated by the bigger schools.”

For SHS, head coach Art Baures listed several individual showings from Gabby Edeen, Mariah Grant and Zoe Sherman as reason to be pleased with the evening’s outcome.

Among other performances, Edeen finished the 100-meters second with a time of 12.51 seconds, Grant finished the same race at 12.97 seconds good enough for fourth. Sherman clocked 2 minutes, 33.10 seconds at the 800-meter run which was second at the meet.

On the boys’ side, Michael Rotellini placed first in the 1,600-meter and nearly broke a school record with a time of 4 minutes, 24.78 seconds.

The 400 meter relay team of Brian Kjerstad, Casey Carlton, Dakota Larner and Nate Kane qualified for state, as did the 1,600 meter relay team of Kyle Dietsche, Brad Holloway, Nate Berg and Casey Carlton.

The girls’ 400 meter relay team also managed to qualify.

Baures said he was pleased with his team’s performance and optimistic moving forward.

“It helps us going into regionals,” he said. “It was a really productive day.”

The Sheridan boys finished fourth in the meet and the Big Horn boys took sixth. On the girls side, Sheridan took fourh and Big Horn finished fifth.

The Gillette boys and girls each claimed team titles at the meet.
