SHERIDAN — Sheridan Junior High School athlete Sierra Needles is heading to Hershey, Pennsylvania, this weekend to participate in the Hershey’s Track and Field Games.

The event provides kids between the ages of 9-14 the opportunity to learn and develop the skills required to participate in basic track and field events.

Needles, who will be competing in the standing long jump event, is hoping to carry over her local success to the national stage.

She won the Northeast District meet this year and has competed in local Hershey’s meets for six years, finishing second in 2012 and first in both 2013 and 2014. She also finished first this year in the softball throw.

Along with track, Needles also participates in volleyball but achieves equal success in the classroom.

A member of the Junior Honor Society, she has been on the SJHS honor roll in all three of her years at the school and was a recipient of the President’s Education Award. She also enjoys volunteering in the community and at local schools.

Needles will test her skills against the nation’s top long-jumpers at Henry Hershey Field on Saturday.
