SHERIDAN — Registration for summer baseball and softball leagues are all open, and the Sheridan Recreation District has some new offerings in 2013.
A softball home run derby will be held June 22 at the college for the first time. New league organizer Robbie Spencer plans to include new statistics keeping service online for a “re-energized” softball program, with hopes of increasing overall participation.
New user-friendly online registration for leagues can be done at sheridanrecreation.com.
A mainstay in a Sheridan summer, the recreation district will offer the following baseball and softball leagues in 2013:
Webb Wright baseball
Registration for Webb Wright baseball has been open since April 1, and will close Monday, April 22. A $5 late fee will be assessed after that.
Pee Wee and Intermediate league players will be assigned to teams by the school they are currently attending, until teams are full. Minor league players will be drafted onto teams by coaches.
Age limits and costs are as follows:
-Pee Wee – Birthday must be on or before April 30, 2006 or a current 1st/2nd grader – $25.00 fee
-Intermediate – Birthday must be on or before April 30, 2004 or a current 3rd/4th grader – $30.00 fee
-Minor League – Birthday must be on or before April 30, 2002 or a current 5th/6th grader – $35.00 fee
Registration for adult softball leagues began Monday and will be open until May 17.

There will be a mandatory managers meeting at 6 p.m. April 24 in the Sheridan Junior High School Old Gym. Teams represented at the meeting get a $20 discount from team fees.
Team fees are $480 for one-umpire games, and $600 if teams desire their game to be managed by two umps.
New features this year will include a Home Run Derby on June 22, an online statistics service along with additional team and individual awards.
Anyone without a team is encouraged to sign-up anyways. They will be put on a player-list that is distributed among teams.
Youth girls softball
Registration for youth girls softball leagues has also been open since April 1, with sign-ups lasting until May 17.
Fees will be $25 for Sheridan County School District 2 students, and $32 for students outside District 2.
The T-Ball league is for current 2nd and 3rd graders, the Colts Slow Pitch League is for current 4th-5th graders, and the Ponies Slow Pitch League will be for 6th-8th graders.
The league begins play June 3 and 4.
Sign-ups can all be done online at Sheridanrecreation.com or in person at 1579 Thorne-Rider Park.
