SHERIDAN — The track teams from Tongue River traveled to Upton Friday for the 2014 Bulldog Bobcat Invite. Multiple athletes had personal best performances and placed in the top of their events.

“I saw big improvement, which is always nice going into regionals next weekend,” coach Chuck Walters said. Austen Scammon won the boys 400 meter run with a tim of 53.74, a full second in front of the second place finisher from Wright.

He then turned around and won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.99, which means Scammon is pre-qualified for the state meet.

Sophomore Dillon Lyons placed third in the boys long jump wit ha leap of 19-feet, 3-inches.

Jarod McCafferty powered through the two distance races, earning a second place finish in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:55.94 and a fourth place finish in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:04.94.

In the field events, Kendall Walters secured a third place finish with a shot put throw of 41-feet, 2-inches.

Three of the girls did not travel with the team due to injuries this week, but those who competed pulled their weight.

In the races, LeeAnna Mitchell took first in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dash.

Heidi Henderson, Sarah Bacon, Lizzy Martin and Caylyn Dygon put points on the board as well.

The team’s next competition will be the regional meet in Torrington next weekend.
