SHERIDAN — The Sheridan boys soccer team fell to Laramie on the road Friday night in double overtime.
Reed Ritterbusch scored the team’s only goal, assisted by Dontae Crow, for a final score of 2-1 Plainsmen.
It was a tale of two halves as Laramie scored midway through the first half against a sleepy Sheridan defense.
“It seemed like we didn’t get off the bus in the first half,” said head coach Kevin Rizer. “Then in the second half, we started playing.”
The Broncs answered with a goal 10 minutes into the second half forcing the first overtime.
Strong play continued throughout the second overtime but an injury followed by a quick goal at the last minute lead to the Broncs defeat.
Rizer says despite the loss, the game shows the boys are on an upward trajectory. The last time the two teams met, Sheridan suffered a decisive loss, 5-0 Laramie.
“All the coaches are just so proud of the continued progress we are seeing,” he said. “And we really believe if they continue this course, they’ll be given an opportunity to play in the state tournament.”
The Broncs will face Cheyenne South tomorrow.
Sheridan beat South 9-0 the last time the two teams met but Rizer is expecting a much different game this time around.
“We’re a little banged up and going to be down a couple starters tomorrow and they are going to be a lot better,” he said.
“They are in their first year with a new coach and just getting better every week.”
