SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Generals rodeo team is midway through their season and with three rodeos left coach Mark Gilkerson said he is pretty excited about how things are going.
“We have some pretty talented women and men on our team,” Gilkerson said recently. “They are doing really well this spring season.”
Zeke Thurston is sitting sixth in the nation in saddle bronc with 710 points.
In their region, the men’s and women’s teams are both sitting in fourth.
Thurston and Taygen Schuelke are ranked in the region for saddle bronc riding as well. Thurston is sitting in second place and Schuelke is sitting in fourth place.
Dillon Barkshire is right behind Schuelke in fifth place and Kash Deal is in eighth. Tate Schwagler is tied with Jaden Clark from the University of Wyoming for ninth place with 195 points.
Schuelke is also in sixth place for bull riding and Thurston is holds 12th place for tie down roping with 110 points.
Annie Novotny holds sixth place in barrel racing and Teddi Schwagler is in sixth in goat tying.
“We practice to get better with each rodeo,” Gilkerson said. “Our goal is to be sitting first or second in the region.”
To do this, he said, each athlete is working on various aspects of the sport at practice, whether it is working on their horse’s skills or their own.
