SHERIDAN — Region IX has named its All-Region teams for men’s basketball. Included in the First Team list is Fred Dure, sophomore guard for the Generals.
In 16 games this season, Dure led Sheridan with an average of 15.1 points per game, while shooting 48 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc and 77 percent from the charity stripe.
Dure also averaged 4.4 rebounds per game with 2 asssists. Dure’s achievements helped the Generals to a 25-5 record, while finishing second in Region IX North.
Fred scored 738 points and won 49 games in two seasons.
“We’re really proud of Fred and this accomplishment,” Generals coach Steve Smiley said.
“In a league as deep and talented as North Region IX, to be named First Team All-Region is a great feat,” Smiley added. “Fred has improved as much as any player we’ve had over a two-year period and he’s very deserving of this award.”
From the Lady Generals Basketball, Sierra Toms and Madison Forney made the All-Tournament Team in Region IX, while the All-Defensive Team included Lady General Morgan Wille.
Forney averaged 15.4 points per game and 7.7 rebounds.
Toms scored 14.4 points per game and 5.2 rebounds and Wille averaged 2.1 steals per game.
The Lady Generals finished the season 19-12 making it to the quarterfinals of the Region IX tournament.
“In the past we have won the tournament, and this season was a growing season,” Lady Generals coach Frank McCarthy said.
“Our future looks bright, we only graduated four players and will have seven outstanding players return, including our freshman Sierra Toms,” he said.
