SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Broncs ended their season with a heartbreaker in Cheyenne for the 4A boys regional tournament Thursday night.

The boys fell to Cheyenne Central, 69-67.

Broncs coach Gale Smith said his team led by one at the end of the first quarter, but in the second quarter his team got into some foul trouble and struggled to defend Central’s guards. The Bronc entered the halftime break down by 10.

“Games this time of year are always tight,” Smith said. “It always comes down to one or two possessions. They just made one more play than we did”

He added that the Broncs fought back to tie the game with 14 seconds left, but Central sunk a shot with two seconds left to win the game.

Dylan Daniels led the Broncs with 27 points and Reed Ritterbusch contributed 21 to the team total.

Smith said the team struggled at the charity stripe, missing 16 free throws.

“It was a good season,” Smith said, noting that SHS finished with a 17-6 record. “It just didn’t finish how we wanted it to.”

The Broncs graduate five seniors, but should have eight players returning and what Smith called a talented group of freshmen coming up the chain.

“The future looks bright,” he said. “We just need to buy into defense a little bit more to have success in the post season.”
