SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College Generals are good at winning late.
Jamir Andrews 3-pointer sent Sheridan College to a 79-78 win last night in Powell and a season sweep of the Northwest College Trappers.

The Generals remained in contention to defend their North Sub-Region IX title. Gillette leads Sheridan by 1.5 games in the conference at 12-1, with Casper well behind at 9-4 in third.

Sheridan takes the weekend off before their final home game against Miles City on Wednesday. They close the regular season against Central Wyoming in Riverton on Feb. 22.

Last night in Powell, Sheridan trailed 41-32 at half and for the majority of the game. They were down by as many as 16 in the second half, but a late surge helped them steal the road win.

Jeff Amazan scored 20 points and Fred Dure and  Andrews had 12 apiece. The Generals 44 percent shooting night trailed the Trappers 55 percent.
It was the 10th time this season the Generals have played in a game decided by five points or less, with four of their five losses this year coming less than five points.

Northwest 78, Lady Generals 75

SHERIDAN — The Lady Generals road woes continued on Wednesday in Powell as they fell 78-75, splitting their season games with the Lady Trappers.

After tripping up the Lady Trappers in January, and following a win over Region IX leader Dawson on Saturday in Sheridan, the Lady Generals failed to hold a 45-37 halftime lead, outscored 41-30 in the second.

“We just didn’t  finish the game,” head coach Frank McCarthy explained. “But we are encouraged how well we can play on the road. We just need to  sustain it throughout the whole 40 minutes.”

The Lady Generals are 14-2 at home this year but just 2-8 away from the Dome.

Madison Forney and Josie Three Irons each had big nights, scoring 26 and 25 points respectively. Katie Kuhn and Sierra Toms had nine apiece.

Forney was 14 of 16 from the charity stripe, and Three Irons was five of nine from 3.

The Lady Generals (18-10, 8-6) now fight for a higher Region IX tournament seed with their final two games, sitting as the middle team in the nine-team North Sub-Region.
