SHERIDAN — State soccer, cross country and golf culminating events will all be coming to Sheridan in the next few years.
Bids were decided at Tuesday’s Wyoming High School Activities Association meetings after Sheridan High School Activities Director Don Julian said last week he was going to try and get back state soccer for SHS.
After a three-year stint in Rock Springs completes in 2015, all classes of state soccer will return to Sheridan in 2016 and 2017.
Sheridan’s boys won the 4A state tournament in 2011 at their host site in Sheridan, reaching the final in three of the four years. Before moving to Rock Springs last spring, the event was held and well-received at the Big Horn Equestrian Center for four years, from 2009-2012.
Sheridan’s new two-year bid beat out a four-year bid from Casper, for both classes, and a two-year bid from Jackson, which would have held just the 3A tournament. State cross country will be held in Sheridan for three more years, 2014 to 2016, after the VA Medical Center’s first stint as host site for all three classes of harriers this past fall.
Finally, 4A state golf is back in Sheridan in 2015. The tournament was held successfully at the Powder Horn in 2013.
