LARAMIE — Behind 24 points each from Fallon Lewis and Kayla Woodward, the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team (4-0 overall) earned a 20-point win, 84-64, over the Pepperdine Waves (2-3 overall) on Saturday night in Laramie. With the victory, head coach Joe Legerski earned his 200th career victory.

Woodward and Lewis each finished with a team high 24 points. For Lewis, it was a career high while she added seven rebounds. Senior Chelan Landry also recorded double-figures with ten points. The Cowgirls were 32-69 (.464) from the field and 10-19 (.526) from beyond the arc.

Pepperdine was led by Bria Richardson with 18 points followed by Allie Green with 15. Amanda Lovely finished with a team high six boards. They were 27-60 (.450) from the field and committed 18 turnovers.

“Tonight was a team effort,” said Legerski. “Kaitlyn got in foul trouble early and Kaylee Hoffman stepped in off the bench and did a tremendous job. Chelan had big night, controlling the game and the tempo, while Jordan Sibrel probably had one of the best games of her career. I was pleased with the play of the post players. We were 25 assists on 32 baskets so we are finding the open person. Then I can’t say enough about Kayla and Fallon because they took over the game. Everyone else was managing it and they were dominating the game.”

Out of the halftime break, it was all Woodward as she scored the first nine points for the Cowgirls to give them a 54-35 lead with 16 minutes left in the game. After a basket by Baughn got the Waves back in the scoring column, Wyoming went on an 8-4 run to make it a 21-point contest, 62-41.

Pepperdine tried to chip away at the lead and scored seven of the next nine to make it 64-48. Started by a Woodward jumper, the Cowgirls went on a 9-2 run to put them up 23, 73-50. Pepperdine came back with six straight points to pull within 17, 73-56. The game and lead were never in jeopardy as Wyoming went on to the 84-64 victory.

The Cowgirls will be on the road for their only game of the week. They will face the South Dakota Coyotes Saturday at 1 p.m. in Vermillion.
