CLEARMONT — Clearmont High School student Sara Ellingrod will travel to Cheyenne March 4 and 5 to participate in the annual Poetry Out Loud state competition.

The competition will feature 14 students from around Wyoming. The event is a memorization and recitation competition for ninth- through 12-graders.

The winners will be announced March 5. The first place winner will receive $200 as well as an all expense paid trip for him and a chaperone to compete at the national Poetry Out Loud competition in Washington, D.C., on April 29-30. The runner-up will receive $100. Both winners will also receive money to purchase poetry books for their school libraries and the awards will be presented by Wyoming First Lady Carol Mead.

Poetry Out Loud is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. It is organized locally by the Wyoming Arts Council.
