SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College men’s rodeo team had one of its best fall seasons in recent years.

After completing the fifth of their fall rodeos over the weekend in Laramie, the team breaks until March and the men’s squad sits in third place behind Casper and Gillette colleges.

Five Generals are scattered among the early Central Rocky Mountain Region saddle bronc standings. Freshman rider Kash Deal had his best showing over the weekend at the Laramie County Community College rodeo. Deal split the first round, not drawing a very good bronc in the short round, head coach Marc Gilkerson said. Deal placed fifth in the short round and fourth in the average.

Current saddle bronc region leader Zeke Thurston, a sophomore, split second and third in the short round in the event, riding a 74-point score. He was fifth in the average.
Dillon Barkshire had a 67-point long round ride, missing his horse in the short round and placing sixth in the average.

Sophomore Logan Schaper was sixth in the long round in steer wrestling, bulldogging his steer in 5.4 seconds. He threw his short round steer in 5.6 seconds to earn second in the round and third in the average.

Freshman team ropers Cashlee Cunningham and Cash Hetzel reached the short round after an 8.7 in the long round. They roped well, Gilkerson said, and caught their steer in 7.1 seconds to finish second in the round and third in the average.

Cunningham also reached the short round in breakaway roping, catching her first calf in 4.0 seconds, even with a penalty and a 12.5 second time in the short round she was fifth in both the round and the average.

Three Lady Generals reached the short round in goat tying, Shai Schaeffer, Jayne Lauweryessen and Teddi Schwagler. Lauweryessen was sixth in the barrel racing at 16.66, and ran a 16.81 in the short round for fourth-fifth in the round and fifth in the average. She was third in girls all-around points.
