SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Broncs bounced back from their first loss with a blowout Friday in Cheyenne.

Sheridan (6-1) beat Cheyenne Central (3-4) 47-7, setting up a meeting with Natrona (4-3) Friday in Sheridan as the Broncs look to lock up homefield advantage for the 4A playoffs, which start in three weeks time.

The Broncs used two first-quarter touchdowns, overcoming early miscues to build a 12-0 lead. Kameron Eckard threw two touchdown passes, both to Daniel Sessions. He hit Sessions on a 21-yard screen pass to open scoring, then found Sessions on a 31-yard seam route to extend Sheridan’s lead to 26-0 right out of halftime.

The Broncs had four rushing scores; Colbey Bruney scored in the first quarter, Sessions in the second, and Tom Fenn and Evan Coon each added second-half touchdowns as well.

“We tried to re-focus this week on fundamentals — blocking, tackling catching — and we really tried hard to focus on being more physical, taking the attack to our opponent and not getting back on our heels,” head coach Don Julian said. “The kids did a great job with that tonight.”

The Broncs scored on their first two drives, they held Central, but did have two turnovers early on. They nearly blocked a punt, but the Central punter ducked underneath a jumping rush.

“The only poor stuff was our own mistakes,” Julian said. “But the kids kept coming at it, and we got a quick score late in the half, that’s something we’ve done that a couple times this year, and that gets us into the locker room with great momentum.”
“We started the second half with two scores, the second-half defense was great, we stuck a couple quick ones and it was game over at that point.”

Sheridan’s two first half turnovers were their only cough-ups, and they forced three from Central.

“We told them we’re very proud of them, and let’s go home and get ready for Natrona,” Julian said. “The same way we got ready for these guys…We’re very excited about the opportunity to go out and get another win and about the opportunity to secure homefield advantage.”

Sheridan and Natrona kick off at 7 p.m. Friday at Scott Field.
