SHERIDAN — The Big Horn Rams fell 34-19 in Burns Friday night.

Head coach Michael McGuire said his team didn’t execute well enough to win as penalties and turnovers resulted in their first loss of the year.

Connor McCafferty threw three touchdown passes, one each to Seth Kite, Ryan Kobeilusz and Corey Sturza.

McGuire said that they started off well, holding Burns on three plays until penalties gave them the ball back.

“Burns is a good football team and we gave them way too many chances,” he said. “I don’t want to say we beat ourselves to take anything away from Burns because they played a good football game, but we’ve got to improve and quit killing ourselves.”

The Rams (2-1) went up 7-0 before Burns (3-0) scored three times in a row to take a 20-7 lead at the half. Big Horn got the ball first in the third quarter, drove to the one yard line only to lose a snap over McCafferty’s head on a fumble.

Burns scored again, and the Rams two late scores proved too little, too late.

McGuire said they worked on shoring up penalties and mistakes all week, but they had four turnovers to Burns’ one Friday night as well as 10 penalties.

“We talked about it all week, worked on it all week,” he said.

“Our attention to detail has got to get better because our little mistakes are adding up and turning into big mistakes,” he added. “As a staff, we’ve got to  a better job of teaching our kids where they need to be and when they need to be there.”
