SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School boys golf team sat in fourth place out of 11 teams after the first day of a two-day tournament in Laramie.

Sheridan’s Jack Mavrakis held fourth place individually after his 79 Thursday. The Broncs shot a team 351 with a 89 from Bailey Bonnett, a 91 from Jacob Belus and a 92 from Alex Williams.

The two Lady Bronc golfers, not enough for a team score, Victoria Owings and Kayla Allen shot a 107 and 113 respectively. Owings was in eighth after day one and Allen was 13th. The tournament was set to conclude Friday afternoon.

SHERIDAN — Big Horn and Tongue River golfers played in the Sundance Developmental golf tournament Thursday, and were set to golf in Moorcroft today.

A stacked Big Horn golf team — 21 players came out for the first week of practice — started with third place finishes from both teams Thursday.

Head coach Mila Stender said that they were hurt by senior Taylor Nance being out with an injury, but the girls still showed well; Kaleigh Anderson was sixth with a 111 and Jamie Kitterman was eighth with a 118.

Stender said she was happy with Nick McAdoo shooting in the 80s — his 88 was good enough for fifth place. Brody Bard shot a 91 for sixth.

“It was a good start for both teams,” she said, especially happy with the boys.

For Tongue River, head coach Pete Kilbride took a brand new team to Sundance as a JV squad. For four out of the five who golfed it was their first ever round, he said.

Dylan Patterson shot a 107, freshman Dylan Good shot a 120 and junior Brock Donston shot a 117. Tongue River’s only girl, freshman Kylee Knobloch, shot a 159.

“They learned a great deal, and will rapidly improve this season, I beleive,” Kilbride said.

He added that today in Moorcroft will be a good measuring stick for the varsity as to where they stand against the rest of the northeast going forward.
