QB Fort to miss opener for Gillette
(AP) — Sheridan’s rival quarterback will sit out the first game of 2013.

Gillette’s Austin Fort, who verbally committed to the University of Wyoming in June, is a 6-foot-4, 210-pound all-state returner who led the Camels with 2,137 yards and 13 touchdowns through the air and added 735 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns last season — an offensive threat that the team will miss to begin 2013, according to the Casper Star Tribune who confirmed the one-game suspension Tuesday.

Gillette appealed the penalty after Fort was red carded during the 4A state soccer championship this spring. By rule, two yellow cards equate to a a red card and an automatic ejection. Players must serve a one-game suspension after an ejection, under WHSAA rules, and since that game fell at the end of the season, the next football game qualifies as such.

Camels coach Vic Wilkerson told the Casper paper that they have others competing for Fort’s spot in the opener.

Gillette plays Kelly Walsh Aug. 30 in Casper. Sheridan will play Kelly Walsh the following week.  The Broncs won’t see Gillette until Oct. 4. Sheridan fell to Gillette in the state semis last season, and the Camels finished as 4A runner-up, falling to Natrona in the title game.

WHSAA to release new ADM numbers soon
(AP) — Enrollment numbers that are expected to be the offical signal for a Tongue River High School football move from 2A to 1A in 2014 will be released soon.

Wyoming High School Activities Association commissioner Ron Laird said on Tuesday that the WHSAA is close to releasing the new average daily membership numbers for the upcoming reclassification cycle.

The WHSAA uses those ADM numbers to set the breaks between classifications; the numbers will set the lines for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.

Laird said a few final adjustments need to be made, notably to Rocky Mountain and Lusk.

The WHSAA approved new cutlines for football last spring, and the new ADM numbers will play a pivotal role in the football landscape moving forward.
